Ajmal and his family came to Canada after fleeing the Mujahideen in 1992. Today, Ajmal is a gifted artist that is working hard to finish grade 12 so that he can study art at university. This dream seems a long way off given his commitment to support his family's cleaning business. Arlene is one of Ajmal's ESL teachers. Her son Mark has just arrived home from a tour of duty with the Canadian Forces in Afghanistan. As the episode closes, Mark and Ajmal discuss current-day Afghanistan and their prospects for peace. Along the way, we learn about Canada's complicated role in the "War on Terror" and the toll that global conflicts take on families like Ajmal's.
